Hello! My name’s Tom Addis. I’m a mixed media artist and designer living and working in Stoke-on-Trent.
I’ve been running a design studio since 2000. We create websites, branding packages and graphic design items for third sector charities and non-profit companies.
I also work as a professional large-scale mural and portrait painter, working alongside the We Are Culla street art team. I’ve painted many murals around Staffordshire including a 10m wide Arnold Schwarzenegger portrait at Basebody fitness in Park Hall, a large painting of legendary golfer Ben Hogan at Goin’ Golf in Longton and several brushwork pieces as part of the stunning War Memorial mural in Longton town centre. I was also one of three artists chosen to hand paint the new Nemesis Reborn ride at Alton Towers, and I created a large fan mural at the old stadium area for Manchester City FC.
I’ve always loved making 3D models and puppets. I previously worked with the Friends for Leisure children’s charity in Congleton running 3D workshops, where I worked with children to create puppets and models out of junk materials, using them to make short films. It was a lot of fun and the children loved the fast pace of hot-glue junk puppet workshops.
I have extensive experience running creative workshops with young people and young adults. Most recently I led sessions with the Meir Intu Sports youth group, working with children to paint a 50 metre mural combining my large-scale paintwork with graphic elements designed and added by the children themselves. I also collaborated with PINC College on a large mural at the Potteries Shopping Centre, working alongside young adults with additional needs to create the piece together.
In 2015 I joined a local art class and started painting large portraits using oils and acrylics. I recently showed some of my larger works in an exhibition titled ‘Stranger Faces’ at the 51-53 Gallery in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. I’m a little shy about showing my pieces in public but it was a really enjoyable experience and everyone was so kind and supportive. This year I’ll be exhibiting new pieces in shows across the UK.
If you have any questions or want to know more about my practice, just send me a message. I love to paint commissions, big or small.
